All Politics is Local

I couldn’t have said it better than Christie Carden, TPP AL State Coordinator, so I won’t.  Please read.

Leverage your power locally to change your party.

“All Politics is Local” by Capitol Confidential at biggovernment.com

TEA Parties nation-wide have found that calling, writing, and showing up in person in D.C. has the same impact as a hiccup in a hurricane. After turning out thousands of citizens at rallies, overwhelming the Senate phone lines and crashing Congress’ e-mail system, our elected representatives are poised to enact the greatest expansion of government in history. The TEA Parties followed the direction of national organizations and associations. They answered the call, but were sent over the trench-line without an actual plan or support. (See, for example, Somme, Battle of) It is time for the TEA Party movement to turn inward. In the words of the age-old adage, “ All politics is local “.

Stories like the ACORN tapes have massive national legs, yet they do not destroy the local farm team of tax-and-spend big government. Fighting for Liberty and the ability to live the American dream requires getting your hands dirty far closer to home.

For the TEA party and 9-12 groups to become effective, they must evolve again, and this time the Gadsden Flag will be a marker laid down to far more personal targets. People find the mundane of daily life and local news forgettable, yet this is how the TEA party can enact meaningful change.

To end the progression of large intrusive government and the progressive agenda, the TEA party must neuter the left’s farm team. City Council, County Board, Park Districts, and School Boards may not have the flash of State Representatives, State Senators or their federal partners, but, they are, indeed, perhaps more the important .

The progressives and Big Government-types have entrenched themselves into local power bases. They have expanded the role of government from the garbage man to the kindergarten teacher. They are taking us over from within, yet we can push back.

Until the last year, our side has been busy with our personal and professional lives. We have looked past machine politics and the local aspects of our lives. We have ignored the corruption in our hometowns. We have chosen to overlook the police state that has grown. We have chosen to allow the nanny state to encroach on smoking in taverns or trans-fat in our doughnuts, to name just two recent examples. We have allowed an extra $.05 sales tax for “insert public good here” after another, without protest or outrage.

In our slumber, we have allowed our liberties to be encroached. We have allowed the will of the State to be imposed on us. In places like Missouri, we have allowed no more than 30 hardened progressives to dictate the tempo of the debate. (Fortunately, we do know who you are and will be outing you here.) We have allowed this to happen because we have not paid attention to the minor league ball game.

We choose instead to protest in Washington, D.C. We chose to show outrage to the political class that is not listening. They won’t listen; they do not have to . They have showered their districts in pork and bribed us with our own money. They can freely come back home from the Beltway bubble to their local farm team and act like they conquered Gaul.

A local mayor and a rogue’s gallery of other officials will hold a press conference with the Representative or Senator and the lamestream media will re-broadcast their talking points. These local co-conspirators will treat the federal officials as Caesar, yet the arch they march through is a fake. These people have only accomplished one thing; they have retained power. They hold power by controlling the means of political production. They control us by controlling our cities, counties, parks, and schools. They have turned us into a class of serfs begging for scraps from the table that we fill. (That’s actually unfair to serfs. In Medieval times, serfs only had to hand over 1/3 of their income to the feudal lords. Add up federal, state and local tax levies, we may much more than serfs ever paid. So, what does that make us?)

Now is the time for the TEA party to show it’s real colors and longevity. Now it is time for us to stop the rallies and start the process of running for election and holding our current officials directly accountable. Now is the time for the plumber, the electrician, and the Joe Six-pack American to end this madness.

No more will we go quietly into that long night. Now, we must fight. We must take back the system and make our elected officials fear “we the people”. This is the battle our forefathers saw many years ago.

This is the time for the Tea Party to seize the day and make a difference. Which party you decide to run on doesn’t matter. Republican or Democrat matters little, as the national leaders of both have lost touch. What matters is we destroy the go-along-to-get-along farm team. It also matters that we pick a party…the Republicans and Democrats have together gamed the system against third parties. Creating a TEA Party isn’t a serious solution. Leverage your power locally to change your party.

Make a pledge to not vote to tax and spend the people’s money. Make a pledge to quit after “x” amounts of terms in office. The people are waiting for a leader; they are waiting for a Captain. Be that Captain. March to the sound of the guns, and seize the day.

With TEA party people in every position of government, the political class in Washington will listen. They will no longer have the political cover of pork-hungry Mayors doing tricks for the political elite. There will no longer be days of staffers blowing people off to vote for their party line.

A carpet-layer has more experience to lead than any political hack. An insurance man has more ability to look at regulations than a risk-adverse lawyer. A veteran has more understanding of what it takes to support our men and women in harms way.

It is time to break the mold of what looks good to get elected. Now is the time to become involved. Now is the time to hear the sounds of battle and join. The Government teat must be turned off. The system needs to be rebooted.

Help start the process and run for office. The great sleeper that is America has woken up. 2010 is not the end game, neither is 2012. The end game is when we level the playing field and make America once again the land of opportunity.

Fly that Gadsden flag high and fly it proud. But, that isn’t enough. It is time to leave your fields and join the battle. March to the sound of the guns.

No Longer a Nation of Laws—Super-Majority Required to Repeal Obamacare

How is this action not treasonous?  Why does the public sit for it?  Where is the outcry?  Let the tsunami cover them all with their own shame and lies this February in Illinois.

We Are No Longer a Nation of Laws. Senate Sets Up Requirement for Super-Majority to Ever Repeal Obamacare

By DCT | December 22, 2009

The Senate Democrats declare a super-majority of senators will be needed to overrule any regulation imposed by the Death Panels
Posted by Erick Erickson (Profile) Monday, December 21st at 10:15PM EST at Redstate.com

If ever the people of the United States rise up and fight over passage of Obamacare, Harry Reid must be remembered as the man who sacrificed the dignity of his office for a few pieces of silver. The rules of fair play that have kept the basic integrity of the Republic alive have died with Harry Reid. Reid has slipped in a provision into the health care legislation prohibiting future Congresses from changing any regulations imposed on Americans by the Independent Medicare [note: originally referred to as “medical”] Advisory Boards, which are commonly called the “Death Panels.”

It was Reid leading the Democrats who ignored 200 years of Senate precedents to rule that Senator Sanders could withdraw his amendment while it was being read.

It was Reid leading the Democrats who has determined again and again over the past few days that hundreds of years of accumulated Senate parliamentary rulings have no bearing on the health care vote.  [emphasis mine and throughout]

On December 21, 2009, however, Harry Reid sold out the Republic in toto.

Upon examination of Senator Harry Reid’s amendment to the health care legislation, Senators discovered section 3403. That section changes the rules of the United States Senate.

To change the rules of the United States Senate, there must be sixty-seven votes.

Section 3403 of Senator Harry Reid’s amendment requires that “it shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill, resolution, amendment, or conference report that would repeal or otherwise change this subsection.” The good news is that this only applies to one section of the Obamacare legislation. The bad news is that it applies to regulations imposed on doctors and patients by the Independent Medicare Advisory Boards a/k/a the Death Panels.

Section 3403 of Senator Reid’s legislation also states, “Notwithstanding rule XV of the Standing Rules of the Senate, a committee amendment described in subparagraph (A) may include matter not within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Finance if that matter is relevant to a proposal contained in the bill submitted under subsection (c)(3).” In short, it sets up a rule to ignore another Senate rule.

Senator Jim DeMint confronted the Democrats over Reid’s language. In the past, the Senate Parliamentarian has repeatedly determined that any legislation that also changes the internal standing rules of the Senate must have a two-thirds vote to pass because to change Senate rules, a two-thirds vote is required. Today, the Senate President, acting on the advice of the Senate Parliamentarian, ruled that these rules changes are actually just procedural changes and, despite what the actual words of the legislation say, are not rules changes. Therefore, a two-thirds vote is not needed in contravention to longstanding Senate precedent.

I will personally work on the campaigns of the opponents of these Senators if they run for re-election; we MUST sweep them ALL OUT OF WASHINGTON unless they are FOR conservative values and can PROVE it by their record!

What To Do? IL Primary Can Be Tsunami

I sent this as an email to all my co-Patriot friends.  Feel free to do the same.

Fellow Patriots,

In a stunning move, Harry Reid is looking to change this country forever… and not for the better.  He’s put in a provision to stop us from ever changing it in the future!

In the latest post at TaxDayTeaParty.com, we bring light to the fact that Reid is now starting to include language in his healthcare bill that would ban future lawmakers from changing the legislation.

In other words, once they get this thing passed, we’ll be slaves to it forever. And there will be nothing we can do about it within the constraints of our current system of government.

This blatant violation of his oath for office could not be more clear.  This is against our Constitution—the standard by which we judge those who work for us!

Is that the kind of news you want to hear?

Well, what have you done to change politics-as-usual in Illinois?

Sure, you can vote. Remember, for every one of your votes there is a gravestone in Cook County with an absentee ballot on it.

Sure, you can attend rallies in freezing weather that the press ignores and politicians use for comic relief. Doesn’t that just make your blood boil?

Sure, you can make phone calls to your elected so-called representatives.. How’s that working out for you?

Sure, you can sign petitions, fill out surveys, and fill up your friends’ in boxes with political flotsam and jetsam. How does preaching to the choir change the other voters’ minds on election day?

Or, you can put information about candidates’ positions, minus the spin, on important issues in the hands of actual voters on election day.

So which is it? Politics as usual? Or a tsunami that starts in the Mississippi valley and spreads to all three coasts that sweeps the corruption-addicted politicians out-of-office?

Illinois is the first primary in the country. What the embattled people of Illinois say in February at the polls will be louder than anything that you individually can hope to say. How do you influence voters that don’t pay attention to the din of politics on the Internet and cable news and traditional media?

So what can you do?

First listen to this recording Teleconference Audio – Candidate Research – from 2009-12-06. Then go to the Tasks page, pick a legislative district, do the research described in the recording and on that page, and post the results of your work. (At Abigail Adams Project – see link below)

DO IT TODAY!

There is no tomorrow!

The universe (creator, God, etc.) rewards people who take action differently than those who do not.

Visit Illinois Abigail Adams Project at: http://illinois-abigail-adams.ning.com/ or Visit Liberty Movement Social Network at: http://www.thepatriotcaucus.net/

We need to be thinking about this, and we need to be ready to confront it in 2010.

Enjoy a blessed and comfortable week with your family, but be ready for the political fight of your life shortly thereafter.

For Liberty,

~ Lisa

Is the GOP Listening Now?

Two new vids put out by GOP.com that are short and beautiful—two qualities good informational media should have, and two qualities which are utterly lacking in most informational media today.  (Hat tip to Bernie at Conservatives Defending Liberty)  These videos are reasonable by virtue of being factual—they describe actual events and the people involved.  There is a bullying spirit behind these shenanigans, it is becoming ever more pervasive, and We the People shouldn’t stand for it.

Dr. Larry Arnn, President of Hilldale College, puts it this way:

[These principles] represent a return to the idea that the American Revolution repudiated—the idea that some are equipped by nature or training to manage the lives of others without their consent…  [Obama] has no desire to own the automobile companies {and other industries – getdclu}.  Instead, he wants to control them—and the rest of us as well—through a regulatory apparatus overseen by czars and bureaucrats…  Rather than looking on us as equal beings with a set nature {as determined in the Declaration}—such that none of us should rule another in the wat that God rules man or man rules beast—our political leaders today have been taught to see us as material to be shaped and perfected by experts who have the proper technical training.

It has been close to 100 years now that the majority of people teaching in American colleges and universities have agreed with Woodrow Wilson, one of the founders of the Progressive movement… that the Declaration of Independence is obsolete, and that we need to liberate the Constitution from the Declaration’s restraints.  This liberation leads to the idea of a “living Constitution,” characterized by constant change or progress…  Absolute truth {obstructs that} which is why… Obama refers to is as tyrannical.  {Can you believe that?  Absolute truth, like God’s truth, is tyrannical!}  But if change… is the rule, who is to determine what version of change or progress is good?  …[O]nce you deny the existence of absolute truth, the definition of “good” becomes subjective and the only standard of behavior is what we want—”we,” in the political sense, meaning the government…  It reduces politics not to right, but to force. {emphasis mine}  That is why there is a bullying spirit about our government today and why so many Americans are worried.

It is time for that to stop.

His two suggestions:

  1. For the ordinary folk of the US to see that this is despotism, and to rise up and repudiate it.
There are several Conservative organizations, but my suggestion is to check out The Patriot Caucus as well as the GOP.
  2. Though longer-term, also as vital: replace leaders with gov’t educations with those who;ve had homeschool &/or good educations from librty-loving post-graduate colleges.
Remember, we have to vote out all non-conservative incumbants!

CBO: Insurance Proposal Would Effectively Nationalize Private Insurance

December 17, 2009
by John Goodman

A Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) is the percentage of premium dollars an insurer spends on claims as opposed to administrative costs and other expenses. According to news reports, a proposal from Senator Rockefeller and others would limit MLRs to 90%. The Reid bill already requires insurers to issue rebates to enrollees on a pro rata basis if its medical loss ratio falls below 80% or lower for the individual and small-group markets or 85% or lower for the large-group market.

However, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says that a 90% MLR would expand “the federal government’s regulatory role in the health insurance market so much that it would make such insurance an essentially governmental program, so that all transactions related to health insurance policies (even those with private companies) should be recorded as cash flows in the federal budget.”  A similar ruling helped kill Hillary Clinton’s health reform proposal 15 years ago.

Donald Marron, former Acting Director of CBO, explains the issue at his blog.

 Is This Fair?

Dec 17, 2009
by John Goodman

Health reform on Capitol Hill:

Focus on Jane, a primary breadwinner making $48,000 (in 2016) to support her family of four. If Jane is offered insurance by her employer that meets the test, she must accept it or pay a fine. That means Jane ends up paying for the entire cost of, say, a $14,100 policy, according to some economists. They say she pays the premiums out of pocket and the remainder indirectly because employers offer reduced paychecks to offset the cost of their share of health insurance.

Now, meet Julie, who also makes $48,000 and is not offered insurance at her job. Julie heads to the newly created exchange to purchase the same policy. But it costs her only $5,300. The rest – about $9,000 – comes from federal subsidies.

Fair?

How Much Does Insurance Really Cost?
Dec 16, 2009
by Greg Scandlen

CNNMoney reports on a recent study by eHealthinsurance.com that found:

Half of individual policyholders paid $132 or less per month… According to the report, in 2009 the median non-group health insurance premium for an individual in the United States was $1,584 per year ($132 per month) and the average deductible was $2,326. Combined, annual premiums and deductibles account for approximately 7.7 percent of median household income for 2008 ($50,303) as reported by the US Census Bureau.

Now, if individuals buying their own insurance got the same tax break as employees get for employer-provided coverage and if there were a back-up mechanism for high-risk applicants, we might dramatically reduce the numbers of uninsured without any individual mandate.Your new doctor?

To confront America’s health care crisis, we do not need more spending, more regulations or more bureaucracy. We do need people, however, including every doctor and every patient. All 300 million Americans must be free to use their intelligence, their creativity and their innovative ability to make the changes needed to create access to low-cost, high-quality health care.

HC Deception’s End Game—Call your Senators NOW!

From the Desk of:
Steve Elliott, Grassfire Nation

Reid is moving to cut off debate on ObamaCare as soon as
this Friday and we still haven’t seen the bill! I believe a
   grand deception is under way.

   [Call your Senators NOW!]

Yesterday’s meeting between President Obama and the 60-member
democratic caucus means we’ve reached the end game on the
Senate ObamaCare vote.

But the meeting and Obama’s claim that we are “on the precipice”
to passage are all part of a grand deception scheme that,
sadly, is on the verge of succeeding.

First… The legislative text of the new Reid bill HAS NOT
BEEN RELEASED. There is NO BILL for your Senators to actually
see and read, and NO BILL for you to see and read!

THE REAL WORK AND THE REAL DEALS ARE TAKING PLACE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!

Second, what’s really happening amounts to pure bribery.

With YOUR MONEY, Reid and Obama are trying to buy
the votes of swing senators to the tune of hundreds of
millions of dollars. Reports indicate that Sen. Ben Nelson
may have been offered $500 million in earmarks for his
state in appreciation of his support of ObamaCare.

Also, we’re told that in Reid’s latest plan, the “public option”
has been removed. But has it? (I guess we’re supposed to take
Reid on his word that the not-yet-seen 2,000+ page bill does
not include a public option!) And does it matter…

With or without a formal “public option,” ObamaCare
means government-run health care. ObamaCare still is
based on the unconstitutional “individual mandate,”
includes massive tax increases, imposes an oppressive new
government bureaucracy and puts the government in
   charge of your health care.

+ + Action: Let Your Senators Know What YOU Think!

I want to encourage you to use every means at your disposal to
let your Senators and other key Senators know what you think
about ObamaCare. Some resources for you:

–Tell your Senators you want to actually see the bill and that
you are outraged that Senate leaders are forcing their secret
 bill to a final vote.

–Tell them you oppose ObamaCare and urge them to vote “NO” on
 cloture and the final bill.

–Tell them you oppose the unconstitutional “individual mandate”
and the oppressive taxes in the plan.
