Get d'Clu

Get a clue & wake up! The best way to lead a nation astray of its values is to keep it ignorant of its history.

A New Dawn

Now that Scozzafava ditched the race and the leftists are scratching their heads in bitter amazement at the good run Dan Hoffman has in NY23 (the race isn’t over at the time of this writing), perhaps the Republican martini elite has gotten it through their dullness that most of us want CONSERVATIVE leadership!

With this switch to Hoffman, perhaps we can anticipate more patriotic conservatives to emerge on the Republican ticket in the congressional races for 2012, espousing school choice, responsible yet minimal government regulation, secure borders, strong national defense, and (of course) freedom of speech on the airwaves and internet; all solutions supported by the vast majority of Americans (if, in using the word “populist” you mean “replacing the Democrats”, yes, that is to what I refer, but not engendering the “populist movement of the 1890’s).

Back in the first half of 2006, Dan Riehl reported that “the word populist may be for the Right what liberal is for the Left – a bad word. Both words suffer from extreme over-simplification…”

“[V]ia Real Clear Politics, an excellent site for a timely snapshot of political news…”

“But the topic for now is political terminology thanks to an interesting piece by Craig Shirley at the Washington Post.”

The immigration reform debate has highlighted a long-standing fissure in the GOP between the elitist Rockefeller business wing and the party’s conservative populist base…

Particularly noteworthy is the following:

The elites in the GOP have never understood conservatives or Reagan; they’ve found both to be a bit tacky. They have always found the populists’ commitment to values unsettling. To them, adherence to conservative principles was always less important than wealth and power.

… It was the populists under Reagan, and later under Newt Gingrich, who energized the party, gave voice to a maturing conservative ideology and swept Republicans into power. We would be imprudent and forgetful to disregard this…

“In its pure form, populist means little more than lower-case d democrat.”

[A]n advocate of democratic principles.

Riehl goes on to describe some history and then explains why Americans simply want good laws to be enforced and big government to become smaller and less intrusive.  They also want their representatives to actually represent them – what a novel concept in today’s political arena.  When Obama spoke of transparency and change, many people really thought he’d live up to at least a little of that rhetoric (like not using “bundling buddies” as employees and ambassadors or making stealth deals with Google that affect Net Neutrality…).

Conservatives are guided by the governing principles of the primacy of individual sovereignty, the sanctity of private property, and preservation of the rule of law.  The rule of law is what makes this Republic different than any other country in the world.  So when our leaders make laws that usurp or controvert the Constitution, they are abridging our freedoms!

“It’s not tyranny we desire; it’s a just, limited, federal government.”  ~Alexander Hamilton

Let us hope and pray that Conservatives win these elections this month and in 2010 in a grand wave of freedom, and may it be a warning to all incumbants that we intend to vote them out if they continue on their same paths.

Two Democratic Senators Lost

James Richardson posted some interesting polling data about the Arkansas Dem stats in Lincoln, Republican Challengers Tied in New Poll.

A new poll by Public Policy Polling which found incumbant Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas taking a more conservative bent while in competition with three Repubs challengers who have single-digit name recognition:  state Senator Gilbert Baker, Huckabee fundraiser Curtis Coleman and Harvard-educated lawyer and U.S. Army veteran Tom Cotton.

With Obama’s health care boondoggle fairing worse in the polls than 1994’s defeated Hillarycare, Lincoln must consider the ramifications of supporting  any factious legislation in a state whose voters gave Republican John McCain 59% of the vote.

What’s more, the hemorrhaging of Democratic support to wavering public opinion raises a serious dilemma for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and poses an acute challenge to the President’s legislative agenda, as Democrats today lost their filibuster-proof majority with the death of Senator Ted Kennedy.

Reid must accept the political reality that Lincoln, who previously bucked party leadership on the cap-and-trade legislation designed to reduce carbon emissions and the reauthorization of banking infusion, may be the next casualty in the polarized health care debate.

UPDATE: Republican Party of Arkansas Chairman Doyle Webb responds:

“It’s obvious that Sen. Lincoln is vulnerable, and her approval rating of just 36% reflects the fact that she no longer represents the values of Arkansans.  It’s clear the people of Arkansas reject the liberal agenda she supports in Washington D.C.  Recent health care town halls have shown us that Arkansans want leaders who protect their interests, not control their lives.”

Demonstrators Bused-In to Show Support for Health Care in NH

Poor, poor Dems can’t get a spontaneous outpouring of supporters on their own, so they bus them in!  Video from New Hampshire shows demonstrators pouring off buses as the rain comes down in Portsmouth, just to make it appear like the sides of contention are somewhat even as the President comes through for his town hall meeting there Tuesday.

Fishy Letter of Encouragement for Town Hall Rebels

Here’s a tongue-in-cheek post from a regular conservative blogger at PTBC, but beware:  it’s got dukey humor and anatomical parts mentioned (potty talk).  So the G rating has just risen to PG.

My Fishy Letter of Encouragement for the Town Hall Rebels

Isn’t it funny that the liberals, who have historically encouraged the contrarian, are now crying foul since conservatives, libertarians and non-Obama addled Democrats have decided, en masse, to become the contrarians and shout Obama, his policies, and his step-n-fetch gofers down?

As you know by now, the Obamanoid’s town hall sale of Obamacare ain’t going that well for Dems because thinking, unbeholden people aren’t buying Barack’s crack. So, what did the White House do in light of the GP’s legitimate concerns over Barack’s proposed legislation? Did they go back and flush it down the crapper? No. Did Obama bend one of his big ears to our bigger concerns? Yeah, right.

No, the White House, in the spirit of tolerance, hope and change officially dispatched some pursed-lip chick to video warn the serfs of Obamaland that if we disagree with His Highness’ health scare bill in a “fishy” email or casual conversation then the White House wants to know about it—and we could very well be deep weeds.

What is this, Russia? Did I wake up in Venezuela? Is this an Austin Powers flick, or a joke? If it isn’t, I’m screwed; all I have been doing for the past umpteen weeks is . . . uh . . . disagreeing with B-HO on my show.

Yep, ever since the Socialist-in-Chief floated his government-bloating, freedom-strangulating 1,100 page unread health care stool I have been smacking it like Rosie would a piñata full of Twinkies; therefore, I might as well just go public with my home address since I’m probably already “flagged”: It’s 1313 Kiss-My-Skinny-Backside Blvd, in Light-a-Fart, Florida, and my email is doug@youaretrulypathetic.com .

Someone help me here. Aren’t the liberals the ones who spawned the likes of Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Bruce Franklin, Jose Angel Gutierrez, Tom Hayden, Angela Davis, Ron Karenga, Jane Fonda and Orville Schell—rabble rousers extraordinaire? (Some of these dogs were violent, I might add.) Therefore, you of all people, Ms. Lefty, should understand and appreciate revolt and revolutionaries, eh? But alas, you don’t—or won’t.

What’s the matter, little liberal? Are you guys the only ones who get to play James Dean? Is that it? Can we not wear the leather jacket? Can we not ride a Harley? Can we not sing “We’re Not Gonna Take It?” Can we not be the rebel with a cause? Is our party disallowed our Rosa Parks? We are? Well, isn’t that conveeeeeeeeeeeeenient?

Liberal politicians, pundits and Obama’s Whine House are condemning outrage over dissent for Obamacare? Unbelievable. Isn’t that what one would call “the putz calling the kettle black?” How the heck do you hacks think you got into the White House in the first place? How did you arrive at that place of power where you could, possibly irrevocably, dismantle our nation? I’ll tell you how: It was by being dissident, getting vocal, organizing, going viral . . . and abracadabra, poof, you socialists won. I believe it was Obama himself who said one should sharpen one’s elbows and get in people’s faces. Yep, I’m pretty sure it was.

Well, guess what? What’s good for the commie goose is good for the conservative gander. Seeing that in a few short months you have not only failed to bring about your promised Hope and Change but have instead increased our debts and deficits, weakened our national security, turned traditional values on their head, scarfed down a big chunk of the private sector, attempted to lasso our cherished liberties, and intend to turn our health care into a DMV with stethoscopes, we officially want our &%$# nation back. And you know what? We’re not too proud to tear a page out of your playbook and move from being nice to being heard. Yep, the times they are a changin’.

Today, if you want to play the rebel (and who doesn’t?), “The Man” is Obama and “The Machine” is his socialist agenda fueled by a Chicago-based bouillabaisse of nefarious critters adept at conformity and bullying. There’s your oppressor, rebel. I think it’s cool that stacks of everyday Americans, especially the cute little old ladies (without being bused in or wearing some red T-shirt with a nut on it) are a part of this political revolt.

B-HO and his boys underestimated the intelligence and malleability of Maw and Paw Kettle to his catastrophic reform and his scare tactics; that crap might have worked in Chi-town, but it will not fly with the rest of us.

Finally, to the rebels who like limited government versus this Orwellian rat cage Obama’s trying to strap on your head, I say: Have fun with your push for true hope and change. I know these are serious times, but time and truth are on your side, yes they are.

No matter how much Pelosi and Boxer ridicule you, you must carry on. When the Whine House threatens to log your IP addresses and snatch your emails, you must plow ahead. When they show up with union goons and Acorn asses, let that encourage you because that means you’re officially under their skin, and the tide is about to turn. Finally, my well-dressed and informed dissenters, let their derision fuel your passion, and let their frowns bring you joy, as this could be our finest hour.

Gag Me

The First Amendment to the US Constitution allows the freedom of speech (and I would say with some civility), yet our elected leaders and non-representing representatives are not allowing us to question them, their policies or affiliations.  Somehow feels like a gag order to me.  Worse yet, Obama’s partners in crime, Pelosi & Hoyer, not only are calling those who attend the town halls “Nazis” (yes, did you hear that?!), but she wrote an Op-Ed piece in USA Today calling them un-American (for standing up and questioning their reps?!) and accusing them of doing what the Democrats themselves are doing — lying and strong-arming their way through the meetings, busing in union members to harrass those who might disagree with the legislation.  It all comes straight from Saul Alinsky’s socialist handbook and it’s dirty tricks as usual.

Democrats, Media Distorting Town Hall Facts
by James Hirsen
Aug 10, 2009
Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and others who express concern about the socialization of our healthcare system are getting slimed. Those who speak out at Town Hall meetings are being painted as “manufactured protesters.”
“Now we see the president, Dem Party, and Machiavellian media revving up their propaganda engines to push an unsuspecting public into believing that town hall meetings are staged, rent-a-mobs are bullying congressional members, and insurance companies are choreographing the entire scenario.”
“But the same politicians and media that are defaming citizens for daring to ask questions were sickeningly silent when members of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a.k.a. ACORN, really did fabricate protests at the homes of AIG executives who received bonuses following the government approved TARP bailouts.”

Democratic lawmakers are smearing anyone who dares to question Obamacare as “brownshirts,” “gangsters,” or domestic terrorists like Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

White House says Town Hall protests ‘Manufactured’

What’s the old song about the seasons?  They “turn, turn, turn.”  Here’s another example of Democrats not liking the truth so they want to change it, and their mantra is “spin, spin, spin.”  Rep. Llloyd Doggett, D-Texas, and the Democratic National Committee have dismissed the protests as ‘mob rule’ (DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse, per FOX article).  Just as when the govt-seduced-media either didn’t report on, or mis-reported significantly low numbers attending Tax Day Tea Parties across the nation and stated the gatherings were ‘staged’ by the RNC and ‘extremist’ groups, the White House is now claiming that the current crop of TH meetings set up over the August break are beset with fake protesters.  It’s not like the Obamaites would ever stage a fake TH themselves…  The truth hurts boys, because it sets you free and that’s called LIBERTY!

Patients Forced To Live In Agony After NHS Refuses To Pay For Painkilling Injections
Laura Donnelly – The Telegraph

The Government’s drug rationing watchdog says “therapeutic” injections of steroids, such as cortisone, which are used to reduce inflammation, should no longer be offered to patients suffering from persistent lower back pain when the cause is not known. Instead the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is ordering doctors to offer patients remedies like acupuncture and osteopathy.Specialists fear tens of thousands of people, mainly the elderly and frail, will be left to suffer excruciating levels of pain or pay as much as £500 each for private treatment. The NHS currently issues more than 60,000 treatments of steroid injections every year. NICE said in its guidance it wants to cut this to just 3,000 treatments a year, a move which would save the NHS £33 million. But the British Pain Society, which represents specialists in the field, has written to NICE calling for the guidelines to be withdrawn after its members warned that they would lead to many patients having to undergo unnecessary and high-risk spinal surgery. Dr Christopher Wells, a leading specialist in pain relief medicine and the founder of the NHS’ first specialist pain clinic, said it was “entirely unacceptable” that conventional treatments used by thousands of patients would be stopped.

Congress’ Own Health Care Benefits: Membership Has Its Privileges
Mark A. Barabak and Faye Fiore – Truthout
Lawmakers can choose among several plans and get special treatment at federal medical facilities. In 2008, taxpayers spent about $15 billion to insure 8.5 million federal workers and their dependents. Too much, too fast, too expensive. Those are some of the objections lawmakers have thrown up against the healthcare overhaul Democrats are attempting on Capitol Hill. But many feel Congress is out of touch. How, they wonder, can lawmakers empathize with the underinsured or those lacking insurance when they receive a benefits package — heavily subsidized by taxpayers — that most Americans can only envy? Among the advantages: a choice of 10 healthcare plans that provide access to a national network of doctors, as well as several HMOs that serve each member’s home state. By contrast, 85% of private companies offering health coverage provide their employees one type of plan. Take it or leave it. Lawmakers also get special treatment at Washington’s federal medical facilities and, for a few hundred dollars a month, access to their own pharmacy and doctors, nurses and medical technicians standing by in an office conveniently located between the House and Senate chambers.

Ten Reasons Why America’s Health Care System Is In Better Condition Than You Might Suppose.
Scott W. Atlas – Hoover Institution
Medical care in the United States is derided as miserable compared to health care systems in the rest of the developed world. Economists, government officials, insurers, and academics beat the drum for a far larger government role in health care. Much of the public assumes that their arguments are sound because the calls for change are so ubiquitous and the topic so complex. Before we turn to government as the solution, however, we should consider some unheralded facts about America’s health care system. To read the complete list follow this link.
